With SLS 3D printing, Bosch is making parts faster.
Using the powder sintering process of SLS 3D printers, Bosch (China) produces parts quickly to verify the structure and test the function of power tool handles, saving more than 50% of the time. Customer requirements: Power tool handle samples used for functional testing must match the finished parts not only in shape but also in function. So the 3D printed samples need the correct profile, and they must also handle the required forces and fit together with high precision. Shining 3D equipment: The machines, parts and materials are made in Germany, which ensures the quality of the finished parts and fully meets the assembly requirements. The SHINING 3D solution: an SLS powder 3D printer + imported materials.Source: Shining 3D.

Frequently asked questions
How does SLS 3D printing work?
SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) uses a laser to sinter plastic powder layer by layer, most often PA12 (nylon), to build a part. The unsintered powder supports the part, so no support structures are needed. This makes it possible to print complex shapes and pre-assembled parts.
Are SLS parts strong enough for functional testing?
Yes. Nylon SLS parts are usually strong and tough with good impact resistance, close to injection-molded engineering plastics. That is why SLS is often used for functional prototypes, joints, clips and housings that need real assembly.
How is SLS different from FDM and SLA 3D printing?
FDM extrudes melted plastic filament. It is low cost but leaves visible layer lines. SLA cures liquid resin with light and gives a smooth surface, but parts are more brittle. SLS makes strong parts with even properties in all directions and needs no supports, though the surface is slightly rough.
Should a small business invest in an SLS machine?
Usually not right away. SLS machines require a large investment, a powder handling process and trained operators. For project-based needs, ordering from a nylon powder printing service (SLS or MJF) is often more cost-effective.
Why does 3D printing shorten product development time?
3D printing lets you make prototypes directly from CAD files without tooling, so each design revision takes only hours to a few days. This lets R&D teams test, find problems and improve the design many times before investing in production molds.
