A reasonably priced 3D scanner for under 80 million VND. It is called the EinScan SP and is made by Shining 3D (China), using German technology, with its factory in China.
EinScan SP – A reasonably priced 3D scanner.
The EinScan SP was developed from the EinScan Pro line and has similar features: tripod capture and the same accuracy per single shot. The only difference is that the EinScan SP lacks the handheld white-light and laser scan modes of the EinScan Pro 3D scanner. Almost everything else is the same.Specifications:
EinScan SP specifications (right-hand column).
From this spec sheet it is easy to see that the EinScan SP 3D scanner does 100% of what the EinScan Pro does in automatic and tripod modes.

The EinScan SP’s automatic scan mode is identical to the EinScan Pro’s. The part is placed on the automatic turntable (360 degrees). When you start this mode, the part rotates by a set angle (configured in advance). When it stops, the EinScan SP takes a shot, and this repeats until the part has turned a full 360 degrees, then the scanner stops on its own. The 3D data appears on the computer screen.

The scanner can also be used for simple mechanical parts that do not need very tight accuracy.

Tripod mode can also scan automatically or manually, which helps when scanning larger and more complex objects.

Key criteria when choosing an entry-level 3D scanner
There are more and more reasonably priced 3D scanners to choose from, but catalog specs do not always reflect real-world performance. Before you buy, judge a scanner on these criteria:
| Criterion | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Object size | Are most of the objects you scan large or small? Is a desktop or handheld scanner a better fit? |
| Accuracy | Will the data be used for 3D printed copies, reference design or quality inspection? |
| Surface material | Is the object glossy, dark or transparent? Can you accept a coat of scanning spray? |
| Color | Do you need to capture color texture? |
| Software | Is the software easy to use, can it export the formats you need, and does it get updates? |
| Computer | Does your current computer meet the scanning software’s minimum requirements? |
Hidden costs of running your own 3D scanner
- A computer with a graphics card strong enough to process the data.
- Consumables: positioning markers, spray cans, fixtures.
- Reverse engineering or mesh processing software if you need to convert to CAD.
- Time for operators to train and build experience.
When should you hire a service instead of buying a scanner?
If you only need to scan a few times a year, your objects vary a lot in size, or you need a CAD file ready for machining as the final result, hiring a service is usually more cost-effective than buying an entry-level scanner. A service provider can choose the right scanning technology for each object and has engineers who process the data professionally. On the other hand, if you scan small objects often and only need moderate accuracy, for example in teaching or art design, an entry-level scanner is an investment worth considering. You can try a 3D scanning service on a few typical samples to compare quality before deciding to buy.
Frequently asked questions
Are low-cost 3D scanners accurate?
Entry-level scanners are usually accurate enough for 3D printed copies, reference design and teaching. For quality inspection or parts with tight assembly tolerances, use an industrial scanner with higher accuracy and repeatability.
Do I need extra software after buying a 3D scanner?
Scanners usually come with scanning software and basic mesh processing. If you need to turn scan data into a CAD file for machining, you will need dedicated reverse engineering software.
Should I choose a desktop or handheld 3D scanner?
A desktop scanner with a turntable suits small objects, works automatically and is easy to use. A handheld scanner is more flexible with large and fixed objects but takes more operating skill.
Can I rent a 3D scanner instead of buying one?
Some companies rent out equipment, but it is more common to hire a full scanning service. A service gets you processed data right away without having to run the scanner yourself.
